Herbs vs. Supplements
Great question from a client…
“Are the herbs that are included (in my GPS Fertility program) in addition to the supplements you previously recommended?”
Yes
Here’s why…
They work differently.
Let’s start with supplements since most people are comfortable with them.
Supplements are meant to bridge nutritional gaps in your diet.
No matter how healthy you think you are, you have nutritional deficiencies. How do I know this?
You’re not getting pregnant.
If you’re not getting a result that you want, you have to go back to the basics. In health, that’s nutrition.
Side rant: It’s absolutely baffling to me that our medical industry spends billions of dollars finding “cures” to all the health conditions that we have, some of them deadly like cancers, but spend absolutely nothing on the most essential component of all. Our nutrition. If we spent a fraction of the money on educating people about the basics of optimal health and training MDs on what REAL health is, so many of our health problems would be eradicated. Oh right, I know why. Money and profit. Sigh. Money DOES make the world go round. So support farmers committed to bringing you organic foods and ethically raised meat (grass-fed, pasture-raised). Let your wallet do the talking. Side rant done.
Anyhoo, back to you and your fertility…
Remember playing hangman? You always knock out the vowels first. At least that’s my strategy. Cuz they’re your freebies. You know every word will have at least one vowel. The longer the word, the more vowels needed.
Essential vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and water are your vowels. You need all of them. Without enough of the right ones, you can’t create anything new, like a baby.
Individuality comes into play in that everyone needs different amounts based on their physiology and external environment.
It’s difficult to get enough nutrients for a number of reasons:
- Most people sit behind desks all day, soaking in flourescent and LED lighting. The sun provides vitamin D and regulates your hormones. Ain’t nothing like the real thing. At least 15-20 minutes a day.
- Our soils are depleted from over-farming, not rotating crops, etc. so our foods have less nutrients. Grow your own, if you have the space, time, and interest.
- We ship foods from all over the world. The longer they’re on a truck and shelf, the less nutritious they are. Eat local.
- Eating improperly prepared foods. This applies to all foods. Here’s but one example…grains are meant to be soaked and sprouted to break down the harmful toxins that protect them from their predators i.e. us and other animals. Do you do that? Me neither. That’s one reason why I encourage people to get off grains while TTC. ALL grains. Not just gluten ones.
The list goes on but you get the idea. This is why supplements are important when you have a health goal in mind, like improving fertility as quickly as possible.
Time’s of the essence when you’re in your late 30s or 40s and/or been diagnosed with poor egg quality or low ovarian reserve.
This email ended up being longer than I expected. I guess I had a lot to say. So stay tuned for Monday’s rambling about the use of herbs for fertility.
Obviously, selecting the right supplements can be a challenge. What to take? What brand? How much? As a coaching client, we cover this topic: fertilityeggspurt.com/gps
