Where is Your Boat Pointed?

With most women gaining weight as they age, having too little fat is understandably a lesser known cause of fertility issues as I discuss in this article.

As with many things in life, being at one end or the other of a spectrum may not be the best course of action.  Rather, the solution often lies somewhere in the middle.

It’s like standing on a piece of wood atop a metal can placed on its side.  If you feel yourself tipping one way, you need to shift your weight to the other direction to balance.

It works the same way with your emotions.  Trying to get pregnant can be a roller coaster ride of feelings.

One minute you’re fine.  The next, you’re in the dumps.

It’s exhausting fluctuating between such extremes.  Challenging you on every level to keep your head above water.

One way of smoothing out these big emotional changes is to become aware of when you start turning more towards negative thoughts like doubt, fear, frustration, anxiety, blame, self-loathing, etc.

Picture yourself in a boat.  Your goal is to keep your boat pointed downstream so life unfolds easily and your desires are placed in front of you.

When life throws you a curve, it turns your boat upstream – creating more struggle and, more importantly, taking you away from where you want to go.

The quicker you can identify the onset of the turn upstream by paying attention to your thoughts and feelings, the faster you can pivot away by distracting yourself with other things.  Instead, you can exercise, put on some loud music, pick up the phone to chat with a friend, or even take a nap.

The goal is to break the cycle of negativity because the longer you stay there, those thoughts will eventually turn to beliefs that you can’t get pregnant with a healthy baby.  And if you don’t believe, it won’t happen.

So as clich√© as it is, staying positive DOES really make a difference when you’re trying to get pregnant.
